As social media grows over the years journalists use it to keep their followers updated on news and much more.

Social media and mobile devices have been affecting the world of journalism in a positive way. With smartphones connected with social media the ability to update viewers and listeners hasn’t been this easy than before. People are able to keep up with news story’s updates from journalists through social media apps such as Twitter or Facebook easily with their devices. Besides social media and mobile devices helping out journalists, there is another factor that has changed for journalists. Two way communication. In the past, the only way to talk to a journalists was by talking to the tv which guaranteed no response in return. Fortunately, with the use of social media, viewers can now communicate with a journalist by commenting on their post. People can comment asking questions or provide feedback.

Journalists are tweeting so their followers can be updated. Twitter is a social media app that was created in 2006 which allows people to share news updates and more. Journalists social media apps for their advantage to keep people updated with their stories.

Breaking news is one of the things that is immediate and sometimes people don’t have a tv in front of them when it happens. That’s where social media and mobile devices come in handy for journalists so they can notify the people that follow them for a news update. For example, The New York Times posted this breaking news on Twitter of how Jeff Zucker, the president of CNN, stepped down from his position by the end of the year after 9 years being president. Not only are people being informed of this breaking news, but in the comments of this post people are talking about it, as well as sharing it with their friends and peers, spreading the news.

The New York Times reports that the president of CNN is stepping down after nine years. This is a good example of journalists updating their followers with breaking news.

Social media is impacting journalism strongly. Keeping followers updated couldn’t be easier in today’s world. As social media grows journalism will be impacted as it makes it easier to communicate, share, and keep people updated.
